A

Acrylic
Strong, clear, rigid plastic that is compatible with other plastics.

ArcticAir™
Displays refrigerated cooler choice. State of the art, forced air technology combined with quality components makes this unit ideal for non-traditional outlets or those store environments where ice barrels are restricted.

Art
An illustration copy used in preparing a job for printing. Also referred to as artwork. Display Industries requires client supplied art prior to initiating production activities.

B

Display Industries Beverage Aisle Unit
A metal display gondola that carries additional pack out when compared to conventional racking systems. Built to hold the weight, this flexible system can accommodate up to 10 high cans on the base. Multiple shelving options available in flat or gravity configurations.

B-Flute Corrugated Paper board
One of the "wave" shapes in the inner portion of combined corrugated board. It is 3/32 of an inch in height and the most widely used corrugated in display production. It provides a good printing surface and die cutting performance. Display Industries corrugated displays are designed and produced using B-Flute corrugated board.

Blow Molding
Method of producing hollow objects by injecting a tube of hot melt into a hollow two-part mold and then inflating the tube against the cold mold surfaces where it "freezes" into shape. The Dyna-Cooler¨ liner is blow molded.

C

Camera-Ready
Copy and/or art that is ready for printing. This is the type of art Display Industries requests at the initiation of every project.

Cardboard
A term erroneously used as a synonym for corrugated paper board

Casters
Wheels that allow for mobility. Display Industries coolers can be purchased with or without steel stem casters.

C-Brackets or Brackets
Hardware which permits the stacking of two SingleTracker™ Cold Vault trays.

Channel Strip
Extruded metal molding covering the front edge of retail display shelf for pricing, unit cost or other data.

C1S Coated One Side
Does not, in printing, refer to varnish but to type of board. Pole signs and other POP is C2S and most corrugated used for a display is either mottled or bright white one side C1S. Varnish coast is part of the print process i.e. 4 colors + varnish coat. Paper that you buy C1S is "enamel"...also available C2S.

C1S Paper board
Paper board that is varnish-coated on one side. Display Industries FrostyPause Cooler wraps are constructed with this material.

Co-Branding
A display that would have graphics that would communicate both a consumer product logo and a retailer message.

CCM Cold Curtain Merchandiser
This represents another term used to describe freestanding visi-coolers.

Cold Plate Technology™
Found only in Dsplay Industries Arctic™ Coolers. Fast temperature pulldown of product by energy efficient, self contained cold convection plate.

Cold Sampling
Single serve beverages presented chilled and ready to consume.

Cold Vault
Merchandising venue comprising both walk-in and visi-cooler equipment varieties. Display Industries has a complete line of products designed to maximize the merchandising potential of the cold vault arena.

CAD Computer Aided Design
A process whereby circuits, schematics, and other technical renderings are generated by a computer. In concept generation, Display Industries design staff utilizes the CAD system as part of the presentation process.

Cool Down Time
The amount of time required to chill a beverage container down to 34 degree from room temperature. Display Industries Arctic Air refrigerated cooler meets this requirement in just 3 to 4 hours on average.

Corra-Plast
A twin wall of extruded plastic sheets space apart by a ribbed, or fluted, center section.

Corrugated Board
The structure formed by gluing a fluted (corrugated) inner member to a flat facing (single face) or between flat facings (single wall).

Creativity
A value-added benefit afforded to clients who work in partnership with Display Industries. Shared via a full range of design services including concept sketches, mock-ups, and prototypes.

Cross Merchandising
The combination of several related products in a single display. Referred to as cross merchandising when the products being promoted are from two or more advertised firms.

CMA Customer Marketing Agreement
An agreement that a consumer product goods company has with a retailer that specifies in-store promotions, both short term and long term.

D

Dangler
A display panel that is suspended from the ceiling or one that fits into a price channel strip. Either style moves with air currents and store traffic.

Dealer Loader
A display having as an integral parts some useful or desirable take home benefits. Displays Industries Sports Cooler lines are strong dealer loaders because of their unique, attention-getting appearance.

Deep Well
Angled base, which is tilted back to allow for easier stacking of unstable packages.

Die
Any of various tools or devices for molding, stamping, cutting, or shaping.

Die Cut
A cut made with special steel rule dies. The act of making a part or container by cutting and scoring to shape corrugated stand-ups represent an example of a die-cut display.

Direct Print
Graphics applied directly to the substrate. Also referred to as " flexo" printing.

Direct Shipment
Shipment of display materials directly to the dealer/retailer.

DSD Direct Store Delivery
Consumer product goods companies that deliver direct to retail environments from a central warehouse facility.

Drop Shipment
Timed shipment of small batches of a large order or simultaneous shipping to multiple destinations.

E

End-Cap Display
A display built for placement at the end of a store aisle, which accommodates a large group of product units. Also known as End-Aisle display, Display Industries Shopper Stopper is a primary example for this category of merchandisers.

F

FastLane
Display Industries flexible, retail friendly, checkout gondola system, which accelerates high profit single serve sales in the supermarket channel. While effectively merchandising the current product mix (candy, gum, magazines, etc...) the FastLane™ bonus is the integration of cold single serve beverages into the checkout environment.

Finished Art
Art that is complete in all respects, a true prototype of the anticipated reproduction. Computer files include Photoshop, Illustrator, and others.

Flat Tray
A Cold Vault tray that does not have under structures and thus cannot be used with stacking hardware. A flat tray must be placed directly on a shelf for a single row presentation.

Flex Channel
Extrusions which adhere to the side of Display Industries FrostyPauseCooler and allows for easy installation and removal of changeable graphics panels.

Flexo-Print
A variation of rotary letterpress, which uses flexible rubber plates and rapid drying fluid inks.

Floor Stand
A pop display that is placed on the floor.

Footprint
Amount of floor space taken up by the display.

Four Post Displays
Refers to a Floor Stand with shelving supported by four uprights. These uprights can be constructed of multiple material including metal, wire, or plastic

FrostyPause™
The round cooler choice, which combines a superior pack out with an alluring appearance at a market friendly price point. Three available sizes-19, 23, 26 diameter.

Gondola
Metal fixture found along the main beverage aisle that is of a permanent nature. Display Industries Imperial is an example of a gondola display.

Gondola PlasTrak
Market proven gravity system for take-home packages presented in the main beverage aisle. Most often placed on the top shelf of the store gondola.

Graphic Surface Area
Territory where visual messages can be presented on the display piece.

Gravity Feed
A merchandiser designed to use the force of gravity to keep bringing the merchandise to the front of the gondola within reach.

H

Hardboard
A fabricated board material often used in stacking displays. Display Industries offers hardboard-stacking trays on a special order basis.

Hardware
Cold vault component which allows stacking of 2 trays on top of each other without having to use a cooler shelf.

Header
A message board projecting above the display and giving the headline or advertising message.

Highlighter™
Structurally impressive plastic semipermanent floor-stand for multiple packages merchandising in secondary locations. Highlighters have clear poles while Spotlightersª have opaque poles.

High Traffic
Primary locations in the store, such as adjacent to the checkout, where shopper activity is the most concentrated.

High Wall
Side dividers between tracks on Display Industries Cold Vault Trays, which are taller than conventional, so as to stabilize tall singles and eliminate side to side tipping problems.

Ice Allowance
Compensation presented to the retailer in exchange for the use of the store operator's ice in ice barrel displays.

Ice Barrel
A cooler display that requires ice to keep the featured product cold. Examples of ice barrels in the Display Industries product line include DynaCooler, FrostyPauseCoolers, and Sports Coolers.

Imperial™
Popular gondola system, particularly in independent grocery stores, that highlights multiple package varieties on either gravity or flat shelf configurations.

Impulse Merchandiser
Merchandising unit which consolidates trial packages in a versatile, highly visible, easy to shop display. Display Industries line of Trial Size modules highlight a variety of items using a minimum amount of valuable floor space.

Impulse Purchase
Sales resulting from consumers making an unplanned buying decision.

Inboard/Outboard
Terminology pertaining to pole positions on a Display Industries Spotlighter¨ or Highlighter. Two position choices are available on several molds-either at the edge (outboard) or inside (inboard) of the tray.

Incremental Sales
Extra buying activity occurring in a retail environment as a result of presenting consumers with additional product placements.

Injection Molded
The method of forming a plastic to the desired shape by forcing the heat-softened plastic into a relatively cool cavity under pressure. Low part price, high tooling dollars required for injection molding.

Interactive Display
A display requiring the consumer to actively participates in the selling process.

Island Display
A Display designed to stand alone with merchandise available from all sides.

KD
Abbreviation for " knocked down" display. A KD display is assembled at the spot where the unit is to be placed.

Kiosk Store
A small outlet, often associated with oil retailer locations, where product offerings are at a minimum due to space constraints.

L

Lead-Time
The time between the start of production and the date the displays are ready to ship.

Lenticular
A grooved plastic sheet with certain light properties that give a different visual angle at different light angles creating a 3-dimensional effect when either printed or pre-printed.

Lift
Term of measurement associated with the increase of sales resulting from the placement of a point of purchase display in the retail environment.

Line Art
Any copy suitable for reproduction without using separations.

Litho-Laminating
The process of combining a LITHO printed sheet of SBS board with single face corrugated to produce a structural sheet of corrugated board.

M

Market Place
Terminology used to describe the retail environment where displays are placed. The Market Place could reference mass merchandisers, drug outlets, supermarkets, convenience stores, etc.

Mass Island
A display featuring a sizable grouping of the product plus a message.

MaxTracker®
The cold vault gravity tray designed especially for large single serve bottle merchandising. Quality ingredients including Display Industries patented PlasTrak®, plus a full listing of market-demanded feature, puts the MaxTrackers® out in front in the cold vault-organizing category.

Medium
Material (i.e. metal, wood, and wire, plastic or corrugated) used in display construction. Display Industries expertise crosses all mediums.

Mini Shop Aisle
A mobile metal display that is low profile in appearance and has adjustable shelf options for the ultimate in merchandising flexibility.

Mixed Medium
A display that is constructed of multiple material. A Mobilizer is a good example of a mixed medium display as a complete unit includes a wire frames, steel stemmed casters, plastic tray inserts, and laminated corrugated side panels.

Mock-Up
Facsimile sample of POP signs and displays indicative of a proposed production unit.

Permits the building of a variety of displays from a few basic units.

Mobilizer
Versatile-sampling center for large single serve bottles and take-home packages with an emphasis on continuous product rotation.

Mobile Floor Stand
Floor stand such as a Display Industries Mobilizer™that has wheels so that it can be moved from one area to another. Also known as a cart.

Molds
The cavity into or on which, the plastic composition is placed and from which it takes its form: the assembly of all the parts that function collectively in the molding process to shape parts by heat and pressure.

Motion Displays
Any signs or displays with moving elements to attract attention.

OBM Occasion-Based Marketing
A marketing strategy popularized in the 1990's. Its main focus was to make soft drink beverages available in various points within the store environment, not just on the beverage aisle.

Off-Shelf
Term referring to merchandising placements beyond, and not including, the main beverage aisle of a grocery store.

Oil Retailers
Gas stations that offer other purchasing opportunities beyond petroleum products.

OMA POPAI's "Outstanding Merchandising Award
Gold, silver, and bronze Indian statues are awarded to winning entries at the trade associations annual convention.

Packout
Designation for amount of product that can be featured on a specific display piece.

Pallet Display
A mass island of product built on a pallet and contained in corrugated or other structural components. The entire pallet-load of product is designed to be moved into place onto the retail floor ready for display by just removing the protective shrouding.

PMS Pantone Matching System
A patented printing ink color matching system involving a range of stock colors that, when mixed in prescribed combinations and amounts, create a wide range of tints, tones, shadings, and intermediate hues.

Permanent Display
A display that has a placement life of at least 6 months. Metal, wood, and wire displays fall into this category.

Plan-o-gram
A schematic drawing or other depiction describing the relative shelf placement and number of facings allotted to each skid.

PlasTrak®
Display Industries patented gravity system. Silicone impregnated tracks assure up-front product access time after time. Used in both cold vault and inline/gondola applications.

Plating
Bright nickel, nickel-chrome, brass, or zinc finishes for displays. Usually relates to displays made from wire such as the Display Industries Mobilizer.

Plexiglas
Sheets of acrylic plastic.

POI Points of Interruption
A term needed to describe the various locations within a store that consumer product goods companies targeted display placements.

POS Point-of-Sale
Those materials located in, or at the retail outlet, which identify and advertise but do not house products as an aid to retail selling.

Polystyrene

POPAI Point-of-Purchase Advertising Institute
The trade association represents the POP industry.

Prep Costs
One time art, plate and die charges necessary to ready a job for production.

Process Graphics
Four ink colors (yellow, magenta, cyan, and black), which when printed in sequence and in predetermined quantities, one over the other, gives the effect of natural color. Also known as four-color process.

Original model.

Replacement Wrap
Graphic treatment that can be easily placed on a previously purchased Display Industries FrostyPause ™ Cooler. Concept allows for featuring an alternative graphic, at a nominal up-charge, from what was originally purchased.

Retail-Friendly
Refers to a display that meets the placement objectives of the end-user. Includes variables such as size and appearance.

Retrofit
Used in conjunction with existing equipment so as to avoid the necessity of duplicating a purchase.

Rotation
The act of making sure that the first product placed on the display is also the first consumed. Particularly important concept with diet products and slow moving brands.

Rotation Molding
A method used to make hollow articles from plastisols or powders. The material is charged into a hollow mold capable of being rotated in one or two planes. The hot mold fuses the polymer after the rotation has caused it to cover all the surfaces. The mold is then chilled and the product stripped out.

Screen Process
Printing one color at a time through a stencil firmly secured to a porous material (screen) through which ink is pushed. Previously silk was used as the screen but this process is now out-of-date.

Secondary Display
Any representation of product in a location other than a beverage aisle location.

Semipermanent
A display, which has a placement life of between 3 to 6 months. Plastic racks fall into this category.

Shelf Organizer
A device used to present products in an appealing, organized way. Lanes, channels, or tracks provide specific areas for on-shelf display.

Shelf Talker
A printed card designed to lay on the shelf under the product and project out and down to carry an advertising message that will call attention to the product. It is sometimes held in place with a pressure sensitive adhesive.

ShopperStopper
Versatile long-term in-store inventories centers for effective end-aisle or island merchandising. Constructed of 1" melamine coated wood and sturdy tubular metal up-rights.

Side Stacker
Easy to assemble corrugated floor-stand with header option. Strong logo identification possibilities at an economical price point make this a popular temporary display choice for brand or promotional programs.

Skid
A wooden platform support that facilitates shipping and handling by lift trucks.

SKU Stock Keeping Unit
Space allotment for specific product offering. Also referred to as the number of facings.

Slide Tray
Industry terminology describing gravity feed cold vault tray. Display Industries SingleTrackers and MaxTrackers® are examples of "slide" trays.

Space Management
The technology used to determine the optimum placement of, and shelf space allotted to brands and SKU'S within a product category. Used to generate a plan-a-gram.

Spotlighter
Structurally impressive semipermanent plastic floor stand for multiple packages merchandising in secondary locations. Spotlighters¨ have opaque poles while Highlighters¨ have clear poles.

Square Deal
Display Industries four-post plastic floor stand for high traffic placements when available shopping space is at a premium. Constructed of solid trays and trapezoid shaped poles, this rack is structurally superior to other semipermanent options.

Stacker Display
A display with an arrangement for projecting or suspending the advertising message form stacked merchandise.

StackerTracker™
Refers to the bracketing of two Display IndustriesÕ Single-Trackers on top of each other. Vertical shopping space is maximized and the need for extra cooler shelves is eliminated.

Stock Item
A product commonly sold in great quantity and perpetually kept in stock and available for immediate purchase.

Styrene
(Also Polystyrene) A plastic material used in vacuum forming and injection molding processes. It is used for its high strength properties and its ability to be colored.

Substrate
A material (usually a paper stock, wood or wood derivative) to which is applied a label or a finished material.

Take-Home
Large bottle purchases of product to be consumed at a later time than at the time of purchase. Take-home packages include can and bottle multi-packs, and 1,2, and 3 liter bottles.

Temporary
A display, which has a placement life of less than 3 months. Corrugated displays fall into this category.

Thumbnail Sketch
A miniature or rough sketch.

Tie-In
Cooperative advertising effort between multiple products featured together on one display unit. Ideally at a money saving combination price (i.e. soft drinks, salty snacks).

Tooling
The process of readying production facilities for mass production of point-of-purchase materials.

Transition
The area where one gondola ends and the next gondola begin. Display Industries Gondola PlasTrak® equipment bridges the transition so as to not waste any valuable shipping space.

Trial Sampling
Terminology referencing single serve purchases of unfamiliar products.

UL
Commonly used abbreviation for Underwriters Laboratory. The UL mark means that the electrical device has passed the appropriate tests administered by the Underwriters Laboratory and is safe. Display Industries ArcticAir™ Refrigerated Cooler has earned the UL safety seal.

Under Structure
Plastic beneath the surface of a tray that bolsters the strength of the display.

Up-Front System
Spring-fed flat shelf merchandiser that continuously keeps single serves packages fronted in the cold vault. The Up-Front System maximizes all available shopping space in the cooler by elimination the need for angled trays.

Upright
A support structure that secures and positions shelving.

Vacuum Forming
An inexpensive process for shaping flat plastic sheets into contours for 3-D effects by heating the sheet until flexible over a mold with the desired shape, then withdrawing the air between the heated plastic sheet and the mold or die.

Value-Added
A Display Industries commitment. Offering a complete package of services to our customer throughout the selling process.

Varnish
A thin protective coating applied to a printed sheet for protection or appearance.

Vertical Space
Potential shopping area located between the bottom and the top of a display piece. A continuing Display Industries objective is to maximize the pack out and minimize the wasted space within the region.

Visi-Coolers
Stand alone refrigeration cases that can be positioned in secondary locations throughout the store and are available in multiple configurations.

Walk-in Coolers
Refrigerated storage area with uprights and racking, predominantly found in the back of convenience store and oil retailer locations.

Warm Sampling
Single serve beverages presented at ambient temperatures for consumption at a later time.
